Hundreds of fans South Africans, Ghanaians and many tourists from around the world wearing the Ghana colours of green, red and yellow went to Melrose Arch on Sunday July 4, 2010 to say goodbye to the Ghana national soccer team before their return home on Monday.
The team visited fans in Soweto before making their way to Melrose Arch, where their fans went crazy for them cheering and blowing on their vuvuzelas in support of the team’s great efforts in the World Cup.
Ghana's Minister of Youth and Sport Akua Dansua accompanied them, said spokesperson Yusuf Abramjee.
"Ghana goes home on Monday and considering their outstanding efforts, we wanted to give them a proper goodbye. They did the continent proud and it’s only appropriate that we give them a good send-off," he said.
The Ghanaian football team has thanked all South Africans for supporting them during the World Cup. A spokes person said, “We came to South Africa representing Ghana and we will now return representing Africa!”
