ADT apprehends intruder in Bramley after dog sniffs him out
Spike, a cross terrier, saved the day recently when he alerted the home owners, and friends visiting for dinner, that an intruder was in the house. Bramley resident Diane Binns explains that she had requested a Meet and Greet service from ADT to go to friends in Forest Road at about 6.30pm that day.
The couple she visited was dog sitting Spike who belongs to their son and daughter-in-law. "We were chatting around the dining room table at around 20:30pm when Spike started barking and rushing from room to room in the house.
My friends' own dogs didn't stir but I got up to lock all the open doors as I was quite concerned about Spike's behaviour. I then followed Spike through the house and noticed that he was very nervous to go into the guest bedroom," says Binns. As Binns was looking into the guest room she saw a shape out of the corner of her eye and upon looking through the crack in the door, saw a suspect hiding behind the door.
She ran back to her husband and friends in the dining room.
They investigated and found no one behind the door. However, they contacted the SAPS and ADT Reaction Officer Lucky Hlatshwayo who had escorted them to the house earlier that evening. Officer Hlatshwayo arrived minutes later and began searching the house.
He went into one of the bedrooms and found the intruder. ADT Reaction Officer Eric Mathubula arrived on the scene along with the SAPS. The homeowners were full of praise for ADT's quick response and the suspect was handed over to the SAPS.
